Getting to know Foxy (II)
In this lesson, we are going to look at how to make two different types of questions. By the end of the lesson, we hope you can make lots of different questions in English!
En esta lección vamos a ver como formular dos tipos de preguntas. ¡Al final de la lección, vas a poder realizar muchas preguntas en inglés!
1.- Let’s look at the form of a basic ‘question word’ question
Where do you live?
This question is made up of four parts:
1.- Question word: Where
2.- Auxiliary verb: do
3.- Subject pronoun: you
4.- Verb: live
Basic questions usually appear in this order. Learn the order! (Las preguntas básicas normalmente aparecen en este orden. ¡Tienes que aprender el orden!)
Question Word + Auxiliary Verb (do)* + Subject Pronoun + Verb
*There are other auxiliary verbs but we are only going to look at making questions with the auxiliary verb ‘do’ in this lesson. (Hay otros verbos auxiliares pero solamente vamos a mirar como hacer preguntas con el verbo auxiliar ‘do’ en esta lección).

Ginger: | Do you swim every Saturday morning? |
Foxy: | No, I don’t. I only go swimming every three weeks. |

Foxy: | On Saturday afternoons, I go shopping. I love shopping. |
Ginger: | Do you go shopping with your sisters? |

2.b. How many questions does Ginger ask Foxy?
2.c. Are the following statements True or False?
3.- Yes/No questions
We are now going to look at a different type of question, the ‘yes/no’ question.
(Ahora vamos a ver otro tipo de pregunta, la pregunta ‘yes/no’).
Here are a few examples from the dialogue:
Do you swim every Saturday morning?
Do you go shopping with your sister?
We call them yes/no questions because the answer to these questions is always ‘yes’ or ‘no’. (Las llamamos ‘yes/no questions’ porque la respuesta a la pregunta es siempre ‘yes’ o ‘no’).
3.a. What are the answers to the following yes/no questions in the dialogue?
3.b. We are now going to look at how to form these questions.
The form of the yes/no question is:
Auxiliary Verb (do) + Subject Pronoun + Verb
You can identify this parts in the questions below:
Do you swim every Saturday morning?
Do you go shopping with your sister?
Do you have a lot of homework to do at the weekend?
3.c. Put the following yes/no questions into the correct order.
4.- Practice
Answer the questions with your own answers.
Do you play tennis?
Do you eat chocolate?
Do you like learning English?
- Yes I do / No I don't
Keep up the good work!.
