Here’s a situation.
A friend of yours would like to take up a new hobby. She doesn’t like sport but she likes socialising with people. She has about 4 hours per week to spend on her new hobby.
Can you give her some suggestions as to what hobby she could take up? Explain why you think she would like the hobby, when she could do it, etc.
Here are some pictures with some ideas to help you.

Audio script
Mark: I’m so worried at the moment.
Emma: What’s wrong?
Mark: I’ve got lots of homework to do, exams are in a couple of weeks and last night I went to bed really late and now I’m really tired.
Emma: Were you revising for the chemistry exam?
Mark: No, I was playing computer games with my friend in America.
Emma: Really?
Mark: Yes, I didn’t get to bed until one in the morning.
Emma: I can’t believe you like computer games. I find them so boring and I thought you were a sports person!
Mark: I am, but I play them from time to time to relax. They help me to concentrate. You see, if I’ve got a lot on my mind, I play a game and whilst I’m playing, I don’t think or worry about anything.
Emma: I think all these late nights are the reason why you’re not doing well at school at the moment. You can’t concentrate because you’re too tired.
Mark: No, it’s not that. I just find this year really difficult. I don’t understand what they’re teaching us.
Emma: I can help you if you want. I can come to your house once a week and go through the things you don’t understand.
Mark: Then when we finish, you can stay and play a computer game!
Emma: I’m not sure about that. Maybe you can take up a different hobby, actually no, forget that! You already have so many hobbies. Don’t you play football, tennis, basketball and rugby?
Mark: That’s right. I’m pretty busy but so are you. How’s your art class going?
Emma: Yeah, not bad. I’ve started painting people lately and I really enjoy it. I’m working on a picture at the moment but I won’t show you until I’ve finished.
Mark: I look forward to seeing them. Do you know what Emma, because I’m finding everything so difficult, it’s going to be a real struggle to get into university.
Emma: Mark, you’ll be fine. I told you, I’ll help you. Also, if you’re really concerned, you can always get a private teacher.
Mark: That’s true and also a very good idea. I think I’m going to ask Mrs Williams. She offered last year.
Emma: You’ll see, everything will be just fine.
