Paper 5 (Speaking) Parts 3 & 4
Lesson 23 – Paper 5 (Speaking) – Parts 3 & 4
Collaborative task (3 minutes) & discussion (4minutes)
Overview - Parts 3 & 4
In Part 3, the examiner asks you and your partner to talk together about a specific topic. You may be asked to solve a problem, come to a decision about something or discuss an issue. During this part, the examiner only listens. Part 3 tests your ability to: use language to discuss different topics, express an opinion, agree and disagree, speculate and evaluate.
When you have finished Part 3, you move onto Part 4 where the examiner asks some questions on the same general topic as the discussion. Although the examiner asks you questions, you and your partner are expected to develop the conversation. Part 4 lasts approximately 4 minutes.
In this lesson, we are going to prepare you for Parts 3 & 4.
Let’s start by looking at some of the tasks you may be asked to talk about and what language you need to answer them.
