Along
“Along” puede funcionar como preposición o adverbio. A continuación analizamos su uso como preposición.
“Along” se utiliza con nombres que hacen referencia a zonas / lugares con forma longitudinal (road, river, line, path, corridor, street, beach...).
1.- Describe movimientos a lo largo de una línea o paralelos a ellas.
Peter walked along the street in silence
I used to run along the beach
The railway goes along the river
You must go along this avenue and turn left at the florist’s
We went cycling along a narrow path
The secretary followed her boss along the corridor
The cruise ship sailed along the coast
He walks along the beach
2.- Describe objetos situados / alineados a lo largo de una línea o paralelos a ellas.
The path runs along the river (el camino va junto al río)
More trees should be planted along the boulevard
There were many restaurants along the promenade
Skyscrapers have been built along the main avenue
Cars were parked along the street
The shops along The Champs Elysées are very expensive
The prisoners were lined up along the fence
There were many shops along the street
The cedars grows along the river
3.- Indica que un objeto se sitúa en algún punto indeterminado de una línea o cerca de ella.
The kitchen is along the corridor
The theatre is along the main street (puede estar al final, en medio, más hacia el principio…)
There is a house along the river (en algún lugar indeterminado cerca del río)
The bus going to Paris stopped along the way
I lost my sunglasses somewhere along the street
