Modals in the negative

English:

May I open the door?

No, you may not.

Could it be that you are angry about the door because Jenny left you? No, it can’t be that. It must be something else.

Must you be so annoying?

I know I mustn’t be annoying Sir Jonathan, but I like to. Whatever might happen to me when you decide to rage against me.

You needn’t be so insufferable. Will you shut up for once in your life?

No, I won’t. Seriously John, whatever happened to you? Shall we go out for a walk?

We shan’t do such a thing. It may not  be a good day for me, but you are not in your best spirits either. Your mother died a few weeks ago.

You shouldn’t have said that. You cannot compare that... that woman of yours to my mother. She was an angel, while Jenny was a monster, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

No hemos de caminar. No será un buen día para mí, pero tú no estás del mejor humor tampoco. Tu madre murió hace unas semanas.
