Making simple sentences
Theme: Making simple sentences, Sa line of Hiragana (Sa, Shi, Su, Se, So),
changing S sounds to Z sounds ( Za, Ji, Zu, Ze, Zo)
Aim: How do I say what something is?
New Vocabulary:
Japanese | Romaji | English |
こre (これ) | kore | this |
そre (それ) | sore | that |
あre (あれ) | are | that over there |
doreが(どれが) | dorega | which one |
いす | isu | chair |
nandeすか? (なんですか) | nandesuka? | what is__? |
(ほん) | hon | book |
tsuくえ (つくえ) | tsukue | desk |
(へや) | heya | room |
いえ | ie | house |
いnu (いぬ) | inu | dog |
neこ (ねこ) | neko | cat |
くruma (くるま) | kuruma | car |
wataしno (わたしの) | watashi no | my |

I. Lesson Points:
1. Wa(わ): The particle “wa” is used to identify the subject of a sentence. So for example in lesson we gave the following sample sentence: “Watashi wa gakusei desu. (I am a student)” “wa” in this sentence shows the speaker who the statement is about. In this case the subject of the sentence is “watashi”.
2. Desu(です): is a word that is used in Japanese to declare something as being. It is similar to the English words 'is, am, are'. The u on the end is silent or whispered.
3. Desuka? (ですか?):Using “か – ka” at the end of a statement turns it into a question.
Sample Sentences:
こre wa nan deすか?(What is this?)
Kore wa nan desu ka?
こre wa hon deす。(This is a book.)
Kore wa hon desu.
そre wa nan deすか?(What is that?)
Sore wa nan desu ka?
そre wa neこ deす。(That is a cat.)
Sore wa neko desu.

あre waいえdeす。(That is a house)
Are wa ie desu.
こre wa wataし no いえdeす。(This is my house.)
Kore wa watashi no ie desu.
あre wa wataし no heya deす。(That is my room.)
Are wa watashi no heya desu.
