We have covered that に(ni) is like the English word “at” and we mentioned that it also has multiple uses. Here we will learn how to use にwhen referring to a physical destination or to a designated person (e.g. when you are giving something to someone).

Sample sentences:
アnaさんはしごとにいきます。(Ana goes to work.)
Ana san wa shigoto ni ikimasu
しごとのあと、ともだちとreスtoranにいきます。(After work, she goes to a restaurant with her friend.)
Shigoto no ato, tomodachi to resutoran ni ikimasu
たなかさんはらいしゅうスペインにいきます。(Mr.Tanaka goes to Spain next week.)
Tanaka san wa raishu supein ni ikimasu
わたしはいぬにごはんをあげます。(I give food to my dog.)
Watashi wa inu ni gohan o agemasu
たなかさんはアナさんにはなをあげます。(Mr. Tanaka gives flowers to Ana.)
Tanaka san wa Ana san ni hana o agemasu
エnriケさんは、らいげつにほんにいきます。(Enrique goes to Japan next month.)
Enrique san wa raigetsu nihon ni ikimasu
とうきょうとおおさかにいきます。(He goes to Tokyo and Osaka.)
Tokyo to Osaka ni ikimasu
わたしはかいものにいきます。(I go shopping.)
Watashi wa kaimono ni ikimasu

Kodomotachi wa gakko ni ikimasu
せんせいはこどもたちにほんをあげます。(The teacher gives books to the children.)
Sensei wa kodomotachi ni hon o agemasu.

Sensei wa kyo kodomotachi ni shukudai o agemasu.
